He has made everything beautiful in it’s time.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I remember crying with such joy, as I always dreamed of being a mom. I was one of those girls that always wanted a big family. This is mainly because I come from a family of 28 cousins and we are all best friends! So yes,

I am the girl who would confidently tell people I want 5 kids!

[ cue in confused jaw dropping reactions ]

Then fast forward to days later…I started to freak-out. I was worried about not being financially ready for a child, Brett and I had not planned our wedding, I couldn’t imagine raising a child where we were living, in the hustle and bustle of Hollywood…there were just so many things I was stressed about.

I wanted to scream,

But, who am I to only want things when it is convenient for me?

I had this “perfect” image in my head of what a family should look like, and I was upset that I was not fitting into that mold.

I then realized that I was worried for all the wrong reasons.

I was reminded that…

God will give me grace, strength, and wisdom through this journey.

For Him to choose Brett and I to be the parents of our little Ten Ten is an incredible gift. For this did not happen by chance. God has plans for Tenley. Being her parents, we are blessed and committed to help her live out her purpose in this world. I may have thought we were simply “not ready” to have a child, but I have faith in God’s timing.

Before Tenley was born, we debated on whether to baptize or have a child dedication ceremony. We respect both for various reasons. We believe that this decision is entirely up to parents and their walk of faith. Both are beautiful ways to declare your commitment to raise your child to know Jesus Christ and to thank Him for the beautiful blessing of a child.

After much discussion, we personally felt that the Child Dedication ceremony was the right fit for us. Below are 5 meaningful reasons why we decided to move forward with the Child Dedication for our little Ten Ten.

5 Meaningful

Reasons for a

Child Dedication

1. Celebrate and Publicly

Thank God for Our Baby

This day was incredibly special for us. We have always thanked God in our prayers for Tenley, but today, we were able to express our gratitude in front of our church, friends, and family! We were excited to celebrate the most precious gift that God has given us.

It was such a heartfelt moment to be surrounded by the love and prayers from our church community, family, and bible study group for the special day.

2. Introducing Our Baby

to the Church Family

Our church is our second home. It is where we go during our highs and even our lowest of the lows. No matter what kind of week we are having, we have always felt the support and encouragement from our church community.

This is our bible study group that we absolutely adore!

I cannot thank God enough for blessing us with such a great group of people.

They have shown me countless times, through their words and actions,

what it is like to live a life loving the Lord.

After Tenley was born, they brought us meals which was an absolute lifesaver, because Brett and I were way too sleep deprived to think about cooking.

They are and will always be my rock.

We wanted to finally share this loving church community with our little Ten Ten.

3. Dedicate Our Favorite

Scripture to Our Baby

 Child Dedication

This was such a fun process, but also the hardest.

During the child dedication ceremony, parents and their children are called to the front to be introduced and a bible verse, that the parents have chosen to dedicate to their child, is read. It was hard to choose one verse, as there are so many different bible verses that we would love to dedicate to our little Ten Ten!

The verse we chose holds near and dear to us, as it encompasses

Jesus’ unconditional love for all.

How do we love like Jesus?

Child Dedication

We wanted to choose a verse that reminds Little Ten Ten…

to love all without limits.

Love unconditionally, just like Jesus.

During ALL stages and phases in life.

(You know, especially those days where you feel like you are on thin ice with patience?

Or wanting to stand up for what you believe in, even when it feels like the world is against you?)

For us, Romans 12:9-11 will always remain as our little Ten’s scripture.

4. Commitment to Raise

Our Child to Know Jesus

Child Dedication

I grew up not knowing Jesus, until I was in high school. Life made more sense when I opened my heart to the Lord. Growing up, I was always very hard on myself. I always thought that no matter how many extracurricular activities I was involved in or how many friends I had,

I was just not enough.

Then I realized that through God’s eyes, I am unconditionally loved.

He has given me grace and strength to be human.

A human that makes mistakes in this world,

but learns from God’s words from the Bible.

The feeling of being encouraged through love, instead of fear of “not being good enough,” is what I want for Tenley. We want our little Ten to grow up with confidence in the Lord, through the good and bad, for God has great plans for her!

We walk by faith not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7

It is never too early to start saying prayers with your little ones.

5. Praise and Pray

for God’s Guidance

I  know Ten Ten is only 5 months old, but I can already attest to this statement! Parenting takes a lot of patience and there is a lot of pressure to be the “perfect” mom these days. Times like this is when I turn to Jesus. He gives us grace and reminds us that we are not perfect, and we are not meant to be perfect. We are human.

Parenting definitely requires daily dependence on Jesus.

Our church reminds us to remember to give grace to our children, as grace has been given to us. We give children grace because we love them, not because they have “earned it.”

The grace that has been given to us from Jesus needs to be given to our children.

Be kind and compassionate to one

another, forgiving each other, just as in

Christ God forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32

At the end of the Child Dedication ceremony, we prayed with our church for continued support, wisdom, and love from God.

In my “short” 5 months of being a mom,

I can confidently say that being a mom has strengthen my trust in God.

Will Tenley Ever

Get Baptized?

We get this question quite often after we decided to do a Child Dedication for Tenley. In all honesty, we would love to baptize Tenley in the future, but we strongly feel that this is not our choice to make. We believe that the decision to be baptized will be decided by our little girl.

She can make the decision to be baptized when she has a better understanding and

When she makes her own decision to put her faith and trust in Jesus.

As her parents, we are committed to raise her under God’s words and love.

It is ultimately up to Tenley to ask the Lord into her heart and place her faith in Him.

I love this! You know I’m not a religious person, but I so much appreciate how you’re inviting Tenley into your beliefs, not forcing it on her! You two are already such great parents!! <3
