VBAC Birth Story: How I Went From 3 cm to 11 cm in 45 minutes!

On October 10, 2019, our second child, Maverick, entered this world at 10:43 pm weighing 7 lbs 11 oz. Maverick entered this world via VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). I remember holding him in my arms for the first time and I said to him, “Mav Baby, we did it. We had a successful VBAC!” Even before we found out I was pregnant again, I was yearning for my second delivery to be a vaginal delivery.

From my personal experience, I can honestly say that I could not have had a successful VBAC without my 3 main essential oil rollers! (listed later in the post)

These essential oil rollers helped me progress quickly during labor. I dilated from 3 cm to 11 cm in 45 minutes! Crazy, right?!

Before, you doubt me, take a look at my birth story below!

My main purpose of this post is to share my experience to every pregnant woman, because you too, should have the chance to have your “dream” birth plan. This can be possible with my 3 Must Have Essential Oil Rollers for Labor!

I am so thankful for the essential oils I packed in my hospital bag!

DISCLAIMER: I am not guaranteeing that this will work for everyone, but it worked for me and many women I personally know and have met.

Why a VBAC?

VBAC-Success-Birth-Story-Must-Haves-Essential-Oils-for-Labor-Hospital-Bag-Clary-Sage-tiffanieanne.com-1

I was so determined to do a VBAC delivery because my c-section (cesarean) recovery with first born, Tenley, was really hard for me physically and mentally. My c-section took a toll on me.

My first pregnancy was a c-section because my daughter was breeched. I was so determined to have a vaginal birth with my daughter that we tried to turn her, which is called getting an external cephalic version (ECV). MAN OH MAN DID THAT HURT!

It did not work. I was scarred from that experience. Honestly, it hurt more than being in labor.

SIDE NOTE:I didn’t know at the time, but many moms with breeched babies place peppermint essential oil on top of their belly to make their baby flip. (DoTerra link | Amazon link) Apparently, babies do not like the smell of peppermint so they want avoid it and flip! Also, I have heard visits to the chiropractor could help breech babies get into birthing position.

So, when we found out I was pregnant again, we immediately began our search for an OBGYN who would agree to do a VBAC. We had many OBGYNs tell us that they flat out do not do VBACs. It became discouraging.

Thankfully, after much research and reading reviews, we found a great OBGYN that was open to doing a VBAC.

The Most Eventful Day!

Best 10 Safe Essential Oils for Pregnancy - Top Essential Oils - Doterra

Trust me, it was not only eventful for me, but for the rest of my family…you’ll see why below!

10:00 AM – I was showered with love at my Baby Sprinkle. (Shout out to my amazing friend, Jenna, for hosting!)

5:15 PM – My water breaks and I truly thought I peed my pants and just had no control of it because you know #pregnancy. The time in your life when you have no control of your body anymore. LOL. I start to monitor my contractions with Bloom Life. (It’s a really neat product!)

5:30 PM – My 3 year old daughter, Tenley, runs to me while I am sitting on a very drenched towel. I know it sounds silly, but I was trying to hide my water breaking, because we recently potty trained Tenley and I did not want her to call me out on peeing on the ground. Haha. Tenley runs to me screaming and crying and can’t seem to talk clearly. She starts choking.

I am trying to figure out what she’s saying. She then points to her opened piggy bank on the couch and I realized…Tenley just swallowed a coin.

5:45 PM – She starts puking all over the living room (and me). At this point I am covered in her puke and my water is continuously breaking. We are both a hot mess.

6:00 PM – My husband, Brett, is rushing home from work (He works an hour away in Los Angeles.) ..and I realize I actually have to send him to Target to get a cooler for my placenta for the placenta encapsulation. The cooler I ordered on Amazon was not going to arrive on time.

Apparently, labor doesn’t wait for Amazon Prime. LOL

7:30 pm – Brett made it home and with the cooler! We get on the road and is stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Typical, LA traffic. Normally, it takes us about 20 minutes to the hospital, but with traffic that evening, it took us 50 minutes.

With a screaming toddler who just choked on a coin and a pregnant woman with strong contractions…this is certainly not the car ride you want to carpool in.

While in the car, I decided to use some of my essential oil roller blends that I made beforehand. I used my Muscle Pain Remedy (to ease contraction pain) and Labor Cheerleader (to help me stay positive through the pain.)

(↡ ↡ Essential Oil Roller Recipes at the end of the post! ↡ ↡)

8:30 pm – When we arrived to the hospital, Tenley was admitted to the ER + I went to Labor & Delivery. When I checked-in, I was sent to the Triage Room and I was 3 cm dilated. The goal is to get to 10 cm. I kept reminding myself what my OB said to me. He said that he will not induce me, because I had a c-section before (apparently, this is very common). So if my contractions do not progress and I am not dilated close to 10 cm… I would have to get a c-section.

8:45 pm – I was SO DETERMINED to speed up my labor and wanted to dilate to 10 cm the quickest way possible. I was willing to do anything! I was determined to deliver my son via VBAC.

So I whipped out my essential oils bag and took out my Push Potion roller. Within 45 minutes I was dilated from 3 cm to 11 cm!! 🙌

No joke, I swear by this roller! The main component in the roller is clary sage oil, which is known to speed up contractions and labor. After this day, I now swear by essential oils! This one experience confirmed it all for me!!

9:15 pm – I am ready to go! I am ready to push! I am at 11 cm…let’s do this!

…except, there are no delivery rooms available for me. “You have got to be kidding me…”

So…this was extremely painful. The nurses kept apologizing and telling me that although my body is naturally wanting to push (because I am THAT ready to deliver)…I have to try my best to not push until there is a delivery room available.

I was in so much pain. I had to again whip out my Labor Cheerleader roller to keep me somewhat sane and grounded through all of this. I also had my husband roll my Pain Remedy roller on my lower back and hips to help ease the pain.

10:43 pm – A delivery room finally opened. I pushed for 20 minutes, and Baby Maverick entered the world successfully via VBAC.

3 things from this VBAC experience I have learned:

1) Ice Chips never tasted SO GOOD until you are in the delivery room pushing.

2) I have always loved essential oils but now I AM A TRUE BELIEVER, after this experience!

3) I am so happy and proud to have had the chance to deliver VBAC. I am truly grateful for this experience!

MUST HAVE ESSENTIAL OILS FOR LABOR!

VBAC Birth Story | Must Have Essential Oils for Labor | Hospital Bag | Clary Sage | tiffanieanne.com

I honestly don’t think I could have had a successful VBAC and good experience, without my essential oils that I packed in my hospital bag. (minus Tenley’s ER visit and the lack of available delivery rooms.)

I am sharing this to every mom-to-be and pregnant mama, because it helped me tremendously, and I hope it helps you too.

These essential oils helped me before, during, and after labor!

Essential Oils Disclaimer: I have been using essential oils for decades! I grew up using them, as my mom was a big fan. I have tried MANY different brands from Young Living to Plant Therapy to DoTerra and more.

My Go-To Essential Oil Brand

I do favor DoTERRA the most, because from my personal experience, their essential oils have more effect on me with just a few drops. A little goes a long way with DoTERRA essential oils. BUT I will have to say, that I respect whichever essential oil brand you choose.

Just make sure to you choose one that is truly pure and ethically sourced, because an essential oil can be legally labeled pure with just 1 pure drop and companies can fill the rest with synthetic fillers.

My motto is if an essential oil bottle, like, Lavender is $5…it is very likely not pure!

I typically do 10 drops per essential oil, unless there is more than 4 oils being used in one roller.

After you drop your essential oils in your roller, fill it up with your food grade coconut oil. If you want to add more oils, you can still do so after adding the coconut oil.
