3 Unique Ways to Use Pool Noodles Around the House!
Foam pool noodles are a lot of fun when you’re frolicking in the water on a sunny day. But did you know there are plenty of non-pool uses for these colorful, budget-friendly foam tubes? Once you learn about the best ways to use pool noodles around the house, you’ll be stocking up to keep them handy long past the dog days of summer.
Plant Filler
You may be scratching your head at the thought of using pool noodles in your outdoor planters, but there’s a practical application for these versatile tubes. If you love adorning your front porch or backyard deck with potted plants, you probably use several bags of soil each planting season. To keep costs down and reduce the amount of soil you need for each planter, fill your container with pool noodles!
Using a serrated kitchen knife or an electric knife, you can easily cut the noodle into several pieces based on the size of your planter. Then, position the noodle pieces vertically to fill the planter to about three-quarters of the height of the container. By filling the bottom of your planter with the foam noodles, you won’t need to add as much soil to large vessels. Noodles can also improve the drainage of the plant.
Drawer Organizer
If you like to keep your home as tidy as possible, there’s a good chance your drawers are brimming with organizers. Although organizers are handy, they tend to slip around whenever you open or close a drawer. Luckily, you can easily solve that problem with a trusty foam noodle.
To do so, you need to first measure the distance from the back of the organizer to the back of the drawer. Second, you need to cut the noodle to size with a serrated knife or electric knife. Be sure the pool noodle fits snuggly in place to ensure the organizer does not move around when the drawer shifts. If you want to reduce the amount of space the noodle occupies in your drawer, you can cut it in half lengthwise.
Shoe Storage
Another way to use pool noodles around the house is for shoe storage. Like drawer organizers, shoe organizers are excellent home organization tools that keep your space free of clutter. However, taller shoes such as boots don’t always sit nicely on an organizer. If you’re tired of looking at floppy boots, a foam noodle is the perfect solution.
You’ll need to measure the shaft of the boot to determine where to cut the noodle. Use your knife to make the cut, place the noodle in the boot, and smile with delight as you admire a row of upright boots. This method also comes in handy if you need to dry your rain boots.
