This can be as simple as painting the door a different color and/or adding a "door handle" which you can use cabinet pulls for that for less than $5.
Pops of green never hurt anyone. Feel free to add faux or real plants. It will make the home feel more cozy for the kids to call it their own home.
Add trims, curtains, and/or paint them to transform them into accent pieces of the home.
